Tell us about yourself!
Hello! My name is Mil and I have been working behind the chair for 2 years. I studied at Aveda cosmetology school in Minneapolis, graduating in 2021, then took a few years away to focus on nature/wildlife photography. I couldn’t help but miss the act of doing hair and connecting with clients so I came back to it and have been loving it since!
What’s your experience?: I have been working behind the chair for 2 years. I started my career assisting an educating stylist while taking classes, and ‘graduated’ from that program to take my own clients and work on the floor full time!
What’s your specialty?: I love doing everything from clipper cuts to balayages/color projects!
Why do you love what you do?: I love building connections with my clients, helping them feel more confident, and being given the opportunity to think critically about my work!
How do you express yourself? : like to express myself through hair color and clothing!
How do you get out of a creative rut?: I like to get out in nature. I take a walk and sit by a lake and listen to the sounds around me! I find slowing down outside helps me get out of creative ruts.
Where do you go in the Twin Cities to be inspired?: I like to go to art museums and any of the many nature spots the twin cities has to offer!
Most noteworthy era?: I would say my time in cosmetology school. I started expressing myself through hair and makeup, I learned how to connect with clients, and I found the type of stylist I want to be for myself and my clients!
What do you do for self-care?: I like to relax with my cat Shadow, make a nice dinner, and talk on the phone with my friends/family!
Piece of advice for those struggling with self-confidence?: I like to think about the fact that we are so used to what we look like that it can be hard to find the beauty we hold in the mirror, but it doesn’t mean it’s not there! With that, doing the things you love and enjoy will help build self-confidence back up!
Must-have product at Gem?: Any K-18 product!
