We understand that the beauty industry can be harsh, and we’re here to change it. We work to emphasize (not conceal) the qualities that make each of our guests unique. Our team of compassionate artists strive to guide each client in feeling authentic—while renewing a sense purpose in their lives. We firmly believe that self-care plays into mental health and that confidence is truly a game-changer. When you feel better on the outside, it shines through to every facet of your being. The story
Our owner and veteran hair stylist Molly Black became the new owner of FiveTwoSix Salon in 2015 and gave our salon a fresh look and feel by renovating and rebranding (thanks Bodega Ltd!) to what is now Gem! We picked up our name from being located in a gem of a neighborhood (Cathedral Hill) and tucked back in a historic Saint Paul building. We also knew we wanted to celebrate individuality and the fact that each guest is unique and rare, like a gem!
Our journey has been a fulfilling one—guiding stylists to find growth in their careers and paving the path for guests to unveil their self-confidence. All the while, we’ve been working our way towards sustainability and partnered with the Green Circle Salon program in 2018, joining the eco-conscious initiative to revolutionize the beauty industry for the better.
In 2021, we transitioned to a new and exciting business model. We are cultivating a community of artists who are looking to have freedom and flexibility in their career. This culture will offer a creative and progressive environment for our Stylists, which will ultimately reflect onto our guests. We are so excited for the next chapter!
